Treble At Perth Is The Highlight Of Our Week

Every winner at Perth is special but three winners in a day is even sweeter and the hard work and team spirit of everyone connected with LRR was illustrated on Wednesday with Mint Gold, Celtic Flames and OrionInverness winning.

The novice chaser Mint Gold jumped with confidence against handicappers and galloped away after the last with Vinos Choice in hot pursuit. An improving five year…

Here We Go Again

After a fabulous treble yesterday (full review to follow) we are back at Perth for the final time this year with eight runners.

Followers of LRR will know that we bought Red Missile at Newmarket August sales just four weeks ago since when he has learned about jumping hurdles and cantering over long distances around the farm. He has some smart flat form and if he translates it to hurdle races…

Another Perth

It feels odd to be running horses at Perth's Glorious Finale having had a very short summer jumping season, however it is great to have a lucky thirteen horses ready to run.

Magnum is having his first start in a handicap and while this looks a competitive race he should relish the step up in distance. Similarly Mannochmore should be fine at this two and a half mile distance and having been…

Catching Up

It has been a full-on week at the yards with a mix of stamina work for some who have just joined the string, routine work for those who run in a few weeks, and some schooling and sprinting for those due to race next week.

We had just a handful of runners last week, but had to withdraw a few due to the heat and to the going. Of those who ran, Shanroe Street ran a fine race to be third at…

Exchequer Second At Musselburgh And A Sad Day Today

Exchequer stayed on strongly in the final two furlongs at Musselburgh on Saturday, just missing out on a win by a length but delighting us with his improvement. A straightforward chap with a determination to run on he should be up to winning for Gerry McGladery before the turf season closes.

We had a sad day today though as Gerry's noble chestnut Normal Norman broke his leg while turned…

Yorton Sale Purchases

Yorton Stud held its annual sale of two year old and yearling national hunt stores, organised by David Futter and GoffsUK. The sale takes its inspiration from France, offering jumps pedigrees, from many young sires, and all the youngsters had been produced by the team at Yorton.

Together with Mark and Susie Russell we looked at all of the two year old geldings and bought two from our shortlist.

Early…

Perth Preview

We were delighted with Engles Rock's run this afternoon when she returned to form to be second, finally knuckling down in the closing stages and closing on the leader. She seemed to find the flatter track more to her liking and will be better again on softer ground.

It was a nice warm-up for tomorrow when we have twelve runners declared at Perth. The ground is good and hopefully, a little…

Racing Working And Jockeys

The week has flown past and having had plenty of racing we continue to prepare horses for the rest of the month.

Yesterday at Sedgefield Normal Norman was fifth on his chase debut, finding the track a bit on the sharp and fast side, while we did not run Bloorie due to the quick ground.

We have a runner on the flat at Musselburgh tomorrow; Engles Rock is top weight in the eight…

The Road Home Wins At Hexham

The Road Home took a giant leap back into form when winning at Hexham this evening. Given a considered ride by Stephen he jumped neatly for a circuit then was sent on for home and jumped well to seal the victory. It was Stephen's idea to leave the headgear off and I think that the work that he, Lorraine and the team here have put into The Road Home has really paid off. It was a most satisfying win…

Pre Hexham

It is going to be great to be back at Hexham with eight horses who should all appreciate the staying track.

We start with Flutter Down a classy youngster who will be a stayer in time. However, at this stage the minimum trip on a stiff track should suit him and I expect him to run better than he did towards the end of last season.

Slainte Mhor is my father's young horse and we are…
